As you know they need the EUAs for the boosters, which require keeping the "emergency" going. It keeps the vaccine manufacturers well protected from liability. Also, Paxlovid and Mulnopiravir are under EUA's and there is no need to disturb the money train that is greasing the right palms.

Defining and counting cases can be complicated and does add cost to healthcare systems. CDC can provide leadership by providing guidance and standards but I don’t think it carries the full blame for the patchwork system of case counting.

It’s all about the Benjamin’s and politics. Thee powers that be and the media over counted so they could overhype the situation to make money, influence the 2020 elections, and damage the economy.
