Also, there are risks to these drugs. An acquaintance of mine has lost a lot of weight and she told me that she's on one of these drugs. She also has had pancreatitis, her gallbladder removed and now has an infectious lung disease called MAC. No plans to stop taking the drug and now needs a tummy tuck.

I wrote in a prior article on reports of stomach paralysis in a few individuals who have taken these drugs so I think there's an unfortunate reality that the more people get their hands on these drugs the more adverse reactions we may be seeing.

I'm sorry that happened with your acquaintance, and it does appear that there is some concerns over possible pancreatitis/pancreatic cancer with these therapies. Unlike native GLP-1 these drugs are designed to have greater binding affinity as well as a longer half life, and so there's a possibility that long-term activation of these receptors may be causing some sort of consequence within the pancreas that is being overlooked.
