I'll just reply here and say that I did watch Die Hard on Christmas! I actually enjoyed it.
I was far more surprised with how close the Cleveland Show parody was to the actual movie. Bruce Willis' character came off incompetent at times but I can see the perspective of him really just being a cop trying to figure things out on the fly and it all worked out in the end.
I can see why people like it so much. I think it lasts due to its over-the-top presentation.
Honestly I was playing games with my cousins so I may actually have to sit down and watch it in full without any distractions!
Well I'm being castigated for having never watched Christmas Vacation, so I'm trying to figure out which one to watch which day. It seems I may watch Christmas Vacation today and Die Hard tomorrow, as long as I can figure out which streaming service has it!
The two Christmas shows that have the most nostalgic value for me are Charlie Brown Christmas from my childhood, where my mom would set my sister and I up with TV trays and we would watch eating dinner. I've grown to Love a Christmas Story into my adulthood because my mom loved it so much and her adulthood, and watched it every year. It's a genuinely enjoyable movie, but it's extra special because my mom, who's no longer alive, loved it. Die hard is a good movie. It takes place at Christmas and has a lot of Christmas references in the dialogue, scenery and plot between the main character and his wife. Merry Christmas, happy holidays! Thanks for all your great writing. 🎄🎉🥂💕
I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I think there are many sentimental things that we don't really think about but when it does happen it really latches onto you. The Charlie Brown Christmas Special was good for really showing it's not about the big things and many times it's the thought that really counts. I heard there was a large dispute about the inclusion of the religious proverb but growing up in a nonreligious house I never noticed. As an adult I can learn to appreciate those types of things more.
I never saw A Christmas Story until one year (either on Christmas or Thanksgiving) and we had cable then. It aired the entire day and we just left it on while playing games. I honestly don't think I've even seen the full movie even though it played all day.
Yes, it's apparently a very quotable film. I tend to be disagreeable but I may as well see what the fuss is with these films!
There are two kinds of people: Those who accept that Die Hard *is* a Christmas movie, and those who are plain wrong.
It's not Christmas until I see Hans Gruber fall from Nakatomi Tower.
Yippee Ki Yay, M... Merry Christmas.
Now go watch Die Hard already! :)
