My favorite exercises are things I do for joy. Dance (cardio), gardening (resistance), walking (mental). My favorite mental exercise (you know, build new neural pathways) is to learn new songs. Going to a gym sucks.

I personally don't like the gym, but I do like strength training more than cardio so I tend to lean towards that. At the end of the day, it's really just doing more and moving around that's really important. I always find it strange when people force themselves to workout or do an exercise they absolutely hate because it's good for them. There are other ways to exercise, and it's far more important that people do something they enjoy rather than something that they hate if it keeps them going and something they can maintain.

I have been on again/off again during my life. After several years on the couch, I rode an e-bike, and I simply had to have one, it was so much fun (I've always liked riding bicycles as a caveat). Ever since it's kept me in pretty good shape. Depending on what setting you use (or sometimes I just shut off the assist completely), you can get all you want in terms of exercise on one. I also think they will be a large part of mobility going forward.

I have also recently committed myself to being in the sun from 1130-1230 every day (best time for vit D production, a nice tan is a side benefit). I can tell you the days when its cloudy at that time I miss it. I think we were definitely meant to be in the sun!

Those bikes are great for the fact it feels like you can do something while you're on them, so even if there's a busy day you can try and rig something to a stationary bike and get some work done. I ended up buying one in the fall of last year because I hate running.

The sun is extremely important. I think far more important than we give it credit for. I do try to use sunblock especially during the hotter/more intense times of the day, but I usually don't reapply if I'm outside for a good deal of time. There's a good balance between getting good sun and getting it slowly. I believe most sunburn is caused by sudden intense sunlight after having no sunlight for months, and it's sunburns that are partially associated with skin cancer.

I have found that the best way to exercise is to adopt an active a lifestyle as possible.

For example, don't drive/ride the bus just to go a few blocks. Walk/bike instead. Use stairs instead of elevators.

By making activity a natural part of daily living, the exercise becomes habitual, making it far more likely to be sustained over the long term. For myself, I have also noticed that when I am generally more active, being in the gym becomes less awkward (although for personal preference I choose to exercise in private whenever possible).

That's my two cents (which with today's inflation is almost enough for a down payment on a free hot dog!)
