I'd say weight stigma could be more harmful than obesity itself if it leads to people taking weight-loss drugs. But I don't think that's what's being sold here.

This is like a bizarre sideshow to the bizarre main event.

I canceled my subscription to Science (the journal) long ago. It seems unlikely I'll subscribe again.

It seems like all of this is a reaction into the opposite direction. We're normalizing acceptance of mediocrity as it doesn't even seem like the people pushing these drugs want people to reach normal BMI's. The Science article even makes these cautionary remarks about people of normal BMI taking these drugs when they aren't intended for that, even though in reality they shouldn't have been intended for weight-loss in the first place.

Science releases some interesting articles. Their investigatory report on the basis for Alzheimer's research helped bring to light the fact that some of the underpinnings in the amyloid research may have been fraudulent, and at that time it seemed as if this was one sign of many that the entire field of Alzheimer's research may need to be overhauled:

Science (journal) has to dance between pharmagov (from which all research grants flow, and fuel publication), and the job of continuing its level of readership. It's been painfully obvious for years that the theory of amyloid as a driver of Alzheimer disease effects has yielded little benefit. Now it's getting so obvious that newer drugs being generated can cause harm, (such as brain inflammations and strokes), that pharm literature and continuing education sources are recommending against them.

I'd say Science had to deliver some Alzheimer facts in 2022 or be totally left behind. It's amazing how long drug developers kept barking up the wrong tree with respect to this disease.

As one who struggled with excess weight for many years; I must say fat is fat. It sucks to be fat. It sucks that people are mean. HOWEVER, obesity kills.

I carry an extra 10 pounds but working on it as usual.

Telling anyone that it’s ok to be obese, is not ok. Taking a drug to be slimmer is not OK, well maybe short term. I don’t know.

For that matter bariatic surgery is not okay. It should be illegal. In my mind, doctors who perform are as villainous as doctor who perform genital mutilation.

More than being ok with obesity, the fact that people are trying to justify people simultaneously being obese AND healthy is extremely dangerous. It allows people with no understanding of science to do whatever they wish in order to make themselves feel better and justify their weight. The fact that many doctors and scientists are allowing a genetics defense without providing any clarification as to how genetics may play a role lets people insert ideology and obfuscate the actual science.

Really food is too easy to obtain. We should have to run after some of it.

Plus I'd like to do some research on the relationship between use of drive throughs and DVTs.
